Sorority Grieves Over the Death of Constance L. Holland

Former International Parliamentarian conceived Educational Advancement Foundation

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and its 200,000 members worldwide are grieving over the death of Constance L. Holland.

Holland once held the position of International Parliamentarian and was the sister of former International President Barbara Phillips. She is also credited with being the visionary and architect behind the creation of the Educational Advancement Foundation.

Holland earned a B.A. from Talladega College and a master’s degree from Indiana University. Professionally, she was an educator and spent much of her career in Bloomington, IN, where she worked in the Bloomington Public School system. Her leadership and excellence as an educator led to her promotion to Department Chairman at Bloomington High School South.

She was a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and, at the time of her transition, was a member of Phi Omega Chapter in Winston-Salem, NC, where she served with distinction and honor.

In expressing sympathy, International President Barbara A. McKinzie reflected on Holland’s contribution to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

“Constance Holland was an innovator who had a tremendous impact on the Sorority. Her desire to create a vehicle where AKA could provide scholarships to youth led to the founding of the Educational Advancement Foundation. She will be missed by the Sorority; but her ultimate legacy—the Educational Advancement Foundation—will live on as a tribute to her life and her love of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.”
