International Parliamentarian Honored as a Pioneer
Tallahassee Community College salutes accomplishments during Women's History Month
Dr. Freddie Groomes-McLendon, Alpha Kappa Alpha's International Parliamentarian, was one of ten accomplished area women and five outstanding students honored by Tallahassee Community College as part of Women's History Month Celebration festivities. During a moving ceremony attended by approximately 200 faculty, friends and supporters, honorees were applauded for helping "to move history forward through a diversity of contributions to work, community, and family."
While from different professions and backgrounds, each of the 15 honorees was bound by their singular accomplishments and for the trailblazing contributions they've made.
Groomes-McLendon was saluted for the strides she's made as "a recognized leader on racial, ethnic and gender diversity issues and as past president of the American Association for Affirmative Action."
During a stirring keynote by local TV anchorwoman Shonda Knight, the theme of the National Women's History Project, Generations of Women Moving History Forward was cited as emblematic of the progress made by women. She inspired those in attendance with her reflections on how women had made contributions in their traditional and non-traditional roles. She also lauded the honorees—and all women—for passing their wisdom on from generation to generation.
