Message from the International 2nd Vice President

Transitions… and A Reminder of Our Purpose

Ranika Sanchez

Ranika Sanchez

We are all excited about Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority turning 100. I believe the excitement comes from the fact that an organization that began on the basis of putting out a hand to lift up the life of another human being continues to exist. However, I also believe we have to place the reason we celebrate into an even more futuristic view.

What I mean by this is, yes, it is fine to celebrate 100 years that have already passed, but what do you do about the next 100 years?

You celebrate it now.

You celebrate with the hopes of being better than you were yesterday.

If you didn't serve like you wanted to yesterday, then begin serving how you need to for the next 100 years.

If you weren’t as kind as you wanted to be last week, then begin showing kindness for the next 100 years.

If your community has not improved the way you want it to, then improve it in the ways you know it should be for the next 100 years.

Transitions—whether from the fall semester to spring semester or undergraduate to graduate—our purpose doesn't change…We serve and become better every day of our lives, so that those following us will look to our example as a model of service.
